Review

As common these days with budget smartphones from Chinese brands this phone too comes with quite a competitive set of features, along with dual-camera setup at its back as its USP. The Honor 6X is the second budget dual-camera smartphone after Coolpad Cool 1, launched in the Indian market. We have been using the Honor 6X for last two weeks and below is our review based on our experience with the device:

Design

The Honor 6X comes in three colour variants; Grey, Gold and Silver with a matte finish and it is available exclusively on Amazon in India. The device has rounded edges at the back which makes it comfortable to grip in hand. The front side of the device includes a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with the Honor branding on the bottom and earpiece, notification LED, sensors on the top of display. Image result for Honor 6XThe SIM card tray is on the left while the volume rocker and power key are on the right. At the bottom there’s a microUSB port and speaker grille, while the 3.5mm audio jack is up top.
The rear panel has the protruding vertical dual camera setup with the fingerprint sensor under it and the LED flash on the side. At the bottom of the back panel is the Honor branding.  Overall, the smartphone is made of metal has quite solid built quality.

Hardware & Software

As far as the hardware is concerned, the Huawei Honor 6X is powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 655 octa-core SoC with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage. The device has hybrid dual-SIM slot thus, users have to choose between expandable storage and dual-SIM functionality. The device is powered by 3,340mAh non-removable battery.

In the software front, Huawei Honor 6X runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and EMUI 4.1 skin on the top of it. The device is planned for an update to Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.0 soon. The EMUI is very neat and clean in design and easy to use. EMUI 4.1 skin does not come with app drawer, though you can use a third-party launcher for it.

Performance

During the time we spent with Honor 6X, we found it to be a great device. The day to day performance of the device is very good with no lags or freezes what so ever. The phone has upto 4GB of RAM thus, random app switching and multitasking works great on it. The battery backup is also good and phone easily last a full day with moderate usage, and can even go for two days with light usage. Further, the device also supports Ultra power saving mode which can be automactically activated by adjusting the battery settings options. This mode only keeps basic functions like calling and messaging enabled, thus maximizing battery backup.

During our testing, we do not encounter any major heating issues with the device. The call quality and network reception of the device also good and works well with all the 3G/4G network.

Camera

The main USP of the Honor 6X has a dual-camera setup at the back which consists of a 12MP module and a 2MP module. It can record Full HD videos at 30fps. There’s also an 8MP front-facing camera with PDAF Focusing. As expected from the camera hardware of the device, we found photography experience with the device very pleasureable and overall picture quality to be really great.
The dual-camera works great for adjusting the focus after the image has been clicked, making for nice depth-of-field like shots. The clicked images have quite accurate colour reproduction and are sharp. Front camera is decent as well. The app comes with all standard camera modes like HDR, beauty and Panorama.

Verdict
In our opnion, Honor 6X is great device in its budget. The competitor to this device at this time is Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 which has better processor than Honor 6X. But, if your preference is camera than we suggest you to go for Honor 6X. On the other hand, if you want more performance than you can go for Redmi Note 4. Rest of the features, build, design in both Honor 6X and Redmi Note 4 are almost same.
